Alignment
You May Need An Alignment If....
- Your steering is hard to control
- Your steering wheel is off center
- You experience premature tire wear
- Your car pulls to one side on even pavement
- Your car wanders from side to side
But You Should Check This First....
If your car drifts to the left or to the right when you let go of the steering wheel on a straight and level road, first check the air pressure in all your tires. If your car is drifting right in the right lane and left in the left lane, the alignment may be fine - most roads are banked to allow for water runoff. Be sure that your tires are the same type, size, and brand. If you still have any of these symptoms, you should have your alignment checked as soon as possible to prevent damage to your tires.
Why Alignment Is Important To You
A wheel alignment involves the adjusting the angles of the wheels so that they are perpendicular to the ground and parallel to each other. These adjustments will maximize tire life and insure that your vehicle drives straight. When your car needs aligned, it will reduce your gas mileage, reduce the comfort of your ride, and will affect engine performance and the suspension parts of your vehicle.
The Causes Of Your Alignment Problems
Hitting potholes, rubbing curbs, and bumping concrete stops will jolt your steering and suspension parts so that things are not straight any more.
Even without a sudden jolt, your alignment will change under normal, every day driving conditions. This change will be gradual and you may not sense that anything is wrong, until you begin to notice uneven tire wear.
You should consider having your alignment checked every year under normal driving conditions, and always when you purchase new tires.
